Fritz Lang’s Full Metropolis Cut Found!

AICN is reporting that the long lost full 210 minute cut of Metropolis has been found in Buenos Aires. That’s almost another hour longer than the second longest version we have. A find like this can’t compare to any of the “Extended Cuts” available for modern movies. This is the version original German audiences saw, and what Lang intended the movie to be.  We’re also not talking about your average silent film. Metropolis directly inspired just about every dystopian sci-fi movie made after it.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I missed this trailer when I saw Indiana Jones IV because they started the wrong movie (Iron Man), but the English version has finally hit the web.

You can watch it in high quality quicktime HERE.

I’m excited for this movie. The teaming up of Fincher and Pitt is enough to excite, and the story sounds fascinating.   I love the atmosphere and look of the trailer. Not only does it have the look of a Fincher film, but it really reminds me of Jeunet’s work.

I’m not a bum anymore!!! (I got a job)

After a quick and unexpected phone interview last week, I had a face to face interview with 5 different people on Monday.  A few hours after the interview, they called back and offered me the job.

I start my job as a Jr. Software Engineer at SendTec on Monday and I’m excited to put my .NET knowledge to work professionally!!!

So, GTA IV landed today……

… and I really don’t care. :P

EDIT: I suppose that would be yesterday.

Ghosts of the Future

These days when it comes to music, there are fewer and fewer reasons to actually buy physical media. I love well made packaging and artwork, but it really is becoming a thing of the past. The music is going to be ripped onto a computer and most likely played via some sort of iPod/mp3 player anyway.

It seems strange then that one of the most exciting musical purchases I’ve made in the last few years is a box set of ten 7″ vinyls.

I received the last shipment of vinyl in Starflyer 59’s Ghosts of the Future box set yesterday and I must say that the set is really remarkable. Each 7″ contains and a-side that will make it onto the upcoming “Dial M” album and a b-side that is exclusive to the box.

The songs released have been pretty good if you ask me, and the colored vinyl is a very nice touch. I got in on a pre-release deal that was not only cheaper ($59.59), but all boxes available now are pressed in black vinyl. Talk about a collector’s item.

Now that the set is complete, pictures are popping up and here are some that I found on the VBM board

All the sleeves combine to make this cool design and spell out SF59:

And here is the box (wooden cigar type box and lid), inserts, and sleeves:

The mover who packed up our things actually thought this was a cigar box.

The cake truly was a lie.

I just realized that the last time I wrote was after moving to our place in Mission. Well, we’ve moved much further this time. For those who may not know, we now live in Tampa, FL. (go to http://www.theredways.net for our combined blog about life in Florida.)

Carrie was accepted into a management training program with her company and transferred to the Tampa store. Obviously, this means that I had to quit my job at CLO. I worked there for over 7 years. I have been planning to move into another field anyway, so it’s really not a bad thing, but any time you work somewhere for that long it’s going to be very strange leaving.

The people I’m really going to miss are those we served and the employees that really did the serving. I can’t say I’m going to miss the crap that worked against us all that time. I got a card from the people who really matter to me the most (that card meant a lot to me), and then a really pitiful card from human resources with only three signatures. It looked like the type of card that someone found lying around somewhere and was a second thought. The front of this aged card said “Thank You” which isn’t really out of order. I really wish I got more of that during my 7 year stint at CLO. The inside of the card was the kicker. It said “Your Thoughtfulness Is Appreciated”.

What!?!?!

YOUR THOUGHTFULNESS IS APPRECIATED?????

  • Seven Years of my life.
  • Human. Bite. Scars.
  • Working with kidney stones, work related injuries, migraines and right after surgery when the Dr. said no.
  • Caseloads of up to 5 at a time when the max is supposed to be 3.
  • Doing 3 jobs duties at a time.

Well, I must say that you are welcome. But I’m saying it to my coworkers that do the work and to the clients who we worked for.

You might be wondering about the title. Well, in true CLO fashion, the director of my site pulled me aside on the day before my last. She told me that there would be a cake on my last day in honor of my leaving. I waited all day on Friday for any news about a cake.

Nothing happened.

the cake is a lie

(I’m told someone forgot to order it)

Worn out, and ready for a vacation.

I’m tired.

We’ve been busy moving for the last two weeks and I’ve been working on a few contract jobs as well. Deadlines are coming up, so I’ve been stressing a bit too much about those things.

Thankfully, I have actually had some time in my schedule to relax and play some Bioshock. It’s the most enjoyable game I’ve played in a very long time. If you have a 360, I highly suggest you pick it up.

We’re also heading to New York at the end of October. Both of us are looking forward to the time off work,  seeing some good friends, and taking in the Big Apple.

What book I be.

You’re I, Robot!

by Isaac Asimov

While you have established a code of conduct for many generations to
follow, your demeanor is rather cold and calculating. Brought up to serve humans, you
have promised never to harm them, to follow orders, and to protect yourself. Living up
to this code has proved challenging and sometimes even drives you mad. If you were a
type of paper, you would be pulp.

Ingmar Bergman dead at 89.

Death finally got the upper hand.

Here’s an homage to the great filmmaker by my favorite band:

The song isn’t about Bergman, but the video obviously “references” his work.

The Final Cut

Unfortuately it looks like the theater releases may only be in New York and Los Angeles.
